Taking a 'soft' social media break? Meditation, sober from alcohol 500 days, and more
Summer is usually quiet in publishing. So I’m going to enjoy some quiet time. I sat in the backyard the other day and did nothing but listen to the birds and watch butterflies and read. I did this for five hours. I can tell you I have not just sat somewhere and done so little in a very, very, very, very long time. Is this what you people do? Is this why you all are so well adjusted? If you know anything about me you know I’m constantly working and don’t know how to . . . take a break, but the universe has forced me to take a little break and so I’m enjoying this time.
I’ll probably be back to my regular social media shenanigans end of month. I’m going a little quiet, avoiding the social media scrolling and social media engaging so I can go inward and focus on my own energy. I’m spending lots of time reading, writing, and in meditation and just focusing on myself and what makes me happy in order to grow more of that.
If there is anything important I will post and share.
Forgotten Sisters Arcs
I will be sending some arcs around to folks in the coming days. I forgot to order packing envelopes. I will get those and then you all expecting an arc will get one and life will be wonderful.
Forgotten Sisters Cover Reveal
I’ve seen the cover of Forgotten Sisters and it’s wonderful. Some small tweaks are being made and I expect that to be shared some time soon.

I used to do all of these daily, sometimes multiple times a day, and fell off these past few months, and well, I felt it. Now I’m rebuilding, and getting back into my self-care routine. I’m once again doing these daily and at a greater intensity, and I am feeling SO much better!
EFT Tapping - Emotional Freedom Technique, which works off of the same principles as acupuncture. EFT is believed to take uncomfortable feelings, emotions, and thoughts, neutralize them and replace them with positive thinking. I do this each morning and in the afternoons.
Meditating - I use guided and free flow meditation programs. I will also use Sama-Vritti, also called the Four Fold Breath, which just means equal breathing. I’ll typically meditate 30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes in the afternoon and 30 minutes in the evening, minimum. I meditate to slow and clear my thinking to bring me into a state of calm. Meditation brings me into the present, relieves stress, strengthens my focus, and more.
Affirmations / Journaling - You can tell yourself ‘I am happy,’ ‘I am successful’ a million times a day, but the key to an affirmation sinking in is that you have to FEEL it and BELIEVE it. And I at least had to reprogram my subconscious in order to feel and believe these affirmations so that I could remove my self limiting beliefs. Reprogramming is done with EFT Tapping or hypnosis. I do both. It’s constant work. And this quote from How to Stop Doubting Yourself stands out:
“Your thoughts and beliefs dictate your reality, so if you want to change your reality, you have to change your beliefs.”
Also, this is what works for me. When I finish my PhD in Psychology I won’t be that sort of doctor so none of what I’m telling you is medical advice. It’s what has worked for me.
More quotes from How to Stop Doubting Yourself:
“It’s none of your business what other people are doing. All that matters is that you’re enjoying yourself and pleased with what you’re creating.”
“You have screwed up in the past. You will screw up again. Every human is born with the ability to make spectacular mistakes. You are not alone, screwing up is not your special skill. Get over it.”
“If you want to radically change your life, strengthen your faith that we live in an abundant, benevolent Universe by being grateful for everything you’ve already manifested and all the good that’s hurtling toward you.”
“All you have to do is make the choice to let go of everything you’re so attached to that’s not serving you and manifest the reality you want.”
“It’s about taking responsibility for your own happiness instead of pretending it’s in somebody else’s hands.”
“Get crystal clear on what you desire to manifest. See it, feel it, taste it, fall in love with it, believe it is already here.’
Sober 500 days from alcohol
Today also marks 500 days sober from alcohol. I’m very proud of myself. I didn’t do a program. I did this on my own. I am doing this on my own.
I do take a lot of adaptogens and supplements that I feel have helped with my mood and thus help me with sobriety. Some of the adaptogens and supplements I take include: Ashwagandha, rhodiola, schisandra, reishi, cordyceps, lion’s made, chaga, multivitamin, vitamin d, vitamin b12, Sam-E, L-theanine and more - and yes, I take these daily.
Around Chicago this past week
Here are some pictures from our adventures around the city. I’m going to go sit in the backyard for five hours again and read.
